About the Event

Please note: Years 3-4 are currently fully booked, but I am able to accept Year 3 and 4 students on the later session alongside Year 5-6 students, so feel free to book these spaces!

August term 1 (Sept 8th - Oct 20th)

Years 3-4: Wednesdays, 3:15-4:15pm

Years 5-6: Wednesdays, 4:15-5:15pm

As an artist and bookseller at The Alligator's Mouth children's bookshop, I'll be sharing my expertise on comics and graphic novels. Every week, we'll look at a different aspect of the comics creation process and create our own comic strips based on those themes, building up a strong base of knowledge. Towards the end of term, we'll aim to create more finished comic projects, allowing each student to follow their unique interests and imaginations.

I've found that creating comics together is not only a fun way to unleash creativity, but brilliant for developing language and communication skills, and often for boosting confidence.

Ground covered will include...

Mark-making and materials: outlines, textures and shading

Writing speech and narrative: bubbles, captions and expressive lettering

Panelling: drawing panels, using panel shape and size to tell your story

Expressive drawing: facial expressions, animating figures and drawing poses

World-building: creating a fantasy world or setting the scene in reality

Character creation: writing compelling heroes, villains and character goals

... And putting it all together to make amazing comics!

August term 1 (Sept 8th - Oct 20th)

£9 per session x 7 weeks = £63
